The World Of Sylus

Step into My Parlor…

Art Plans

I have finally finished DotComLarry’s dranei Shaman for the contest over at 4theHorde. That was a blast, I’ll post the pic at 4theHorde tomorow after I stick the winning drawing in the mail(yay, I trust the postal service). Then I’ll be redoing my Mt. Hordemore photo I thought I had finished… I had, but I did it on the wrong paper, and this paper scans horribly into digital form, and looks trashy. Great origional piece, but crappy digital translation… Anyway, then, on to a special secret project… Don’t tell the short bearded stalker… Yeah, I see you over there, hiding behind that blogroll… yeah, you.

Anyway, I’ll get those all posted for you to see when I get them done, till then, stay classy, sassy and …um, glassy?

World of WORKcraft

OI! This week has been looooong. I’ve been getting little to no sleep, working a bit extra, and to top it all off my school workload the past two weeks has been HORENDOUS! I’ve spent way to many hours trudging through research for two key projects for the semester that came due this week.

This has left Sy a dull and worn out guy. Oh yeah, also the little one is two weeks old, and likes late nights more than her father. Of this I am sure! She really likes early mornings as well. I can’t complain about this though, as this morning was the only time I’ve played WOW all week!

I’m hoping to remedy this whole “no wow” problem this weekend. I do however want to give ladygil a bit of a break if I can. She’s been doing the overnight feedings as I have to drive to and from classes way to early in the morning( I leave about 6:20 and am use to not leaving the house until around 9ish). It’s working out, and I’m almost done. I found out where I will be doing my student teaching this week, so I see the light at the end of this very long tunnel! It’s out there, oh yes, I can see it… you see it don’t you? yeah, right there, that pinprick way out there…that sort of glowy spot? Well, who cares if you see it or not, it’s there!

Remember to get your comments in over at 4theHorde before saturday, I’ll be drawing someones character sketch this weekend, and it could be yours!(Gnome would be really mad if it isn’t his though!) Who know’s, maybe I have a surprise in store for our pint-sized little friend… Anyway, have a great week guys, and I’ll catch up with you on the other end of this contest. I don’t forsee a post for me tomorrow, so you guys can go back and reread this one. Seriously, go back in your feed readers and mark this post unread…go ahead, I’ll wait…you done yet? good. So, see you tomorrow!

Blog Bling!

Hey guys, I started drawing toons for people about a week back, and have had a blast setting up an etsy shop, working on some promo material(ya know, pimping my talent) and being super busy doing real life stuff. Now, I did end up selling my murloc Marine pet to pay for the markers to get going on this endeavour. (I had some, but just the basics)

Yes, I parted ways with my murloc space marine pet. It’s okay though, he’s a little annoying in my opinion. Some guy out there on the webs and wide open spaces of Ebay liked it so much, he paid me 80 bucks for it, woot! That bought me 20 or so markers. Woot. Copic markers guys, they are awesome.

Now, in doing some of my promo work to get the word out, I drew a TREE OF DOOM for Saresa over at Tree of Doom, and Destructive Reach. It’s a great place to have something featured, as she seems to get some serious traffic. Much more serious than I get here. I have to get the word out right? Right? I mean come on, I want to sell some art work here! Justify all of this hulabalu!

I have had a few questions, but no one seriously jumping at me yet. I’ll give it time, and I mean seriously, as long as I am having fun with it, it’s totally worth it to me! So go ahead, check out some of my work in previous posts, check out my work at Etsy, and if you see something you like, let me know. Who know’s maybe I’ll end up drawing something for you one day!

Also, keep your eyes peeled for a contest on 4theHorde, I’ll be giving away a custom headshot of your favorite toon within the week! Details coming soon!

Enjoy,
~Sylus

The Artist in Me is Out Again!

Sylus is doing custom toons for customers… Okay, so I’ve been hesitant to do this for a few reasons.

1. I hate deadlines.
2. I hate rejection.

See, deadlines on my hobbies turn them into not-hobbies. (yes, not-hobbies is in my dictionary.) I’ve loved to draw pretty much forever. Now my wife gets these amazing markers (copic) and I’m off to the races. I’ve had the pleasure of drawing some guildies up to this point, and now I’m ready to see if I can make a bit of pocket change out of the deal!

You read that right. I’m selling hand drawn pictures of your world of warcraft toons! What better way to immortalize your favorite characters?(that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, I love you figure prints, I swear I do!) I’ve got a few images up at the moment, and I’ve even started an Etsy shop. My wife over at LadyGil got me started, and I have some for sale there as well.

blue man

For $20 dollars you will get a full color Custom Hand drawn and inked head/bust portrait done on 8-1/ class=”hiddenSpellError” pre=”">2in x 11in acid free card stock.
($10 dollars for just black and white pen and ink)

kor2

For $25 dollars you get a black and white stylized armor set of your choice. If you have the screenshot, you can pretty much get any armorset. (35 for color armor set)
(armorset includes shoulders helmet, and horde/alliance symbol)

brougham

Now, for $35 dollars I can give you a full color toon pic. I’ll keep these interesting for sure! This image is of Nimrock’s dwarf hunter, who smokes and drinks too much. You will notice I left off the legs and feet, they were boring. If the screenshot I get is interesting, say a kneeling pose or something of the sort, then they get the full treatment! I’ll make them look as good as I can.

Now, if you are interested go check out my etsy shop and convo me there, or leave a comment here. I accept paypal at the moment, but could be talked into other forms of payment as well!

Remember guys, these are custom, if you want it, I can do it. Prices may vary if you want multiple things. (for instance a mounted toon, group shot, etc)

Lets hope this goes somewhere!

The Epic Drop That Went the Other Way!

Yeah, so this site was suppose to be my “real life” other stuff other than the Horde blog. Well, I sort of posted my real life news over there this time. It wasn’t my fault really. Lets blame Pie and Fikkle, yeah. Those guys are bad news! They are all over the place influencing me to go ahead and post about everything over there…

Okay, now I’m just spreading slander and lies. Slander and Lies I tell you. I did it for selfish reasons. See, this is the deal. I get like what 40ish hits here on a good day. 4theHorde gets 150+ on slow days. I love my new little girl, she’s a cutie. I wanted to tell the world about her! Now, let’s be honest. Which is quicker, telling 40 people a day, or telling 150 people per day? Hmmmm, I may be no Nimrock when it comes to the mathifications, but I do know that 150>40. Basics my good man, basics.

So yeah, I wanted to take a quick minute to divert you all over to the article at 4theHorde. I wrote up a big post about the delivery of the little one as seen from a gamer’s point of view. Not just any gamer, a wow gamer. I hope you all enjoy it, I know I had fun writing it. So yeah, teh Epic drop went that way and landed on 4theHorde, not here. Sorry for the 2 people who may read this one, and not that one, you guys are awesome…wait…I’m guessing there are no people who read this one, and not that one…just a guess.

Now, just a quick heads up. I’m about to open up another venue for me to unload my creative juices upon the internet. Yes, that’s right, MORE SYLUS! Have you ever wondered what your avatar would look like drawn up AMAZINGLY? Well, lets just say you might not have to wait much longer. I’ve already said too much, and my sponsors are going to kill me if I say any more…wait…we have sponsors? Well, if the wife counts as a sponsor for donating my time…then I have a sponsor!

The Waiting Game…

Hey guys, sorry I’ve been a bad blogger! With 4theHorde at least if I’m a bad blogger, there are a few other guys to pick up the slack, but here I’m floundering on my own!

My wife is still pregnant, as opposed to not pregnant, and having a baby and all. Our official due date is Monday, but doc said he was 90% sure we would have her this week… it’s saturday… now, is he going with a traditional sunday to saturday week? or maybe a new age funky monday to sunday week? We met with him on Wednesday…so was he meaning wednesday to wednesday? OI. Well, I’m guessing not the wed to wed thing, as if the kiddo isn’t here by wednesday(her next appointment) he is going to induce. SCARY.

In other news, I’ve been busy with school work, busting out some serious work, and then stressing over baby stuff as well. Good Times. That’s where life is at for now folks. Tonight brings pizza and a movie with the wife. We’ve been trying everything, chinese food, mexican food, alot of walking, driving down bouncy gravel roads, we’re about ready to try a trampoline!!! Anything we can to get little Lily here safe and sound! Don’t worry internet, you will know when Uncle Sy, becomes Papa Sy….

~Uncle….er, soon to be, Papa Sy

Old RP…

I read this today, out of boredom(after hours of mind-numbing homework) and now I want to play a rogue…so that means gathering that heirloom armor as well? oi, decisions decisions. Anyway, stroll down memory lane with me, this is some old RP I wrote way back in the early days of hanging out with fikkle, back when we were RP noobs, and noobs at wow to be honest. Sylus was my second character to level, and my main for a very long time. (As a side note, sylus talks with a bit of a hiss to his “s’ sounds…I thought it was cool back then, now it’s a bit distracting) So without further adu, I give you:

The End OF Dark Allegiance, The Rise of Day of Reckoning

It was the appropriate time, those not engaged in battle gathered in the Hall of Darkness to receive our orders from the Dark One. Everyone was still taken aback that our leader Bloodymaiden was not present. As happened at the pinnacle of every moon, the Dark One appeared. “The time has come for a new path. Your Mistress is no more. She refused the path I required of her and she has been banished, never to return. Choose my will for you, or you will share the same fate. You will betray the Horde for it has grown weak and complacent, unable to fight the true enemies. On this parchment, I hold the names of the betrayers who shall carry out my orders. We will work from the top down, your first assignment being Thrall himself.” She paused momentarily, opening the scroll. Fikkle, Sylus, Dishman, Garthras, Erzsebet,, Moodles, and Hidanti.

Everyone looked around, knowing what had to be done. The Dark Allegiance had been home for many over the past months, but now it had to end. The Dark One had crossed a line, and his true purposes broke through the cracks in his disguise.
“No,” Sylus hissed defiantly. “Wee willl nott.” Sylus pulled his dagger from his belt and plunged it deep into the chest of the dark one. All in attendance moved swiftly, sensing the actions of each other from many seasons of battling side by side. Daggers, swords, and Dark Magic rained down on the Dark One with the force of a thousand Kodo.

“You will command uss no more,” Sylus hissed at her, “For I shalll be your Executioner one final time, and we are no longer under your swayy.” The Dark One looked upon her once devoted followers, the blood draining from her face. She turned towards her champion, the one forseen to lead her minions to greatness. Her voice failing, she spoke in a quiet, pathetic voice, “And you, Fikkle?”
“I am yours no longer, for the Day of Reckoning is at hand.” The body of the Dark One fell to the ground, the scroll that was once gripped tightly in her hand, rolled across the floor. Sylus turned to his brothers and sisters, speaking in a deep, raspy voice.

“You are not the betrayers, but the redeemed.” Stooping slightly, Sylus pulled the bloodied parchment from the puddle of blood pooling on the floor. “You have all helped uss free ourselves from the occult evil that has plagued uss. Renounce the darknesss and join me in search of glory. We Must redeem ourselves in the eyes of the Horde. This beast, the dark one, had uss fooled. We were set up to destroy the Horde. There must be more evil that has infiltrated the rankss of the Horde, waiting for the proper time to sstrike. We must dedicate ourselvess to finding this evil, and Destroying it, before it destroys uss. Agents of the Alliance, and the demons from other realms will never be safe from our blades! Glory on the battlefield and the riches from the spoils of war will be ours!”

Sylus reached down and drenched his hands in the freshly spilt blood of the Dark One.Using his finger he quickly scratched words onto the back of the scroll. When he finished, he looked upon us and spoke.“Thiss iss the our new purpose, the oath of fealty:

‘You have stood too long in the darkness of night. Through these coming trials you will rise from the ashes, blazing like the morning sun. Pledge an oath and swear your loyalty to this Day. Seek out the evil that has infiltrated the Horde. Glory, fame, riches and victory will fall in it’s place if we keep our eyes on our goal. Tell others that the Day of Reckoning is at hand!’

“We know what musst be done. The Dark Allegiance is no more. A new banner shall soar above the shadowss. All who seeek to purge the unworthy from the Horde, grow in power, fame, glory and riches shall flock to our cause.”

Sylus rolled the scroll and thrust it towards Fikkle. “Fikkle, take thiss new oath. If we are to rise from the ashess to glory once again, I will need you at my sside. Tell others of the evil we sseek to destroy. Redeem those who are willing to renounce the darknesss.” Turning towards his remaining brotherss and sisterss, he spoke more quickly, urgency flooding his tone. “Brotherss, ssisters. We musst rebuild all that has been losst. Go out onto the battlefieldss, into the cryptss and through the townss. Wreak havoc upon our enemiess and let all in Azeroth know that the Day of Reckoning iss coming!”

Gozz 2.0

In years past, when I was referring to “Gozz,” I was always refering to my main toon in world of warcraft. He’s been the big and mean, rough and tough Orc hunter with an aditude. I’ve put in over 75 days worth of played time on him in the 4+ years I’ve been playing wow. However, now when I refer to Gozz, i could be referring to another toon, One that might not even be of the same faction as my Horde loving orc friend. I could be referring to my, wait for it…. let the suspense build….DWARF HUNTER. Yes, I named my dwarf hunter the same thing I was able to name my main. There’s something about the name Gozz that just makes me think “hunter.”

Now, I know I know, dirty alliance. The truth be known, I’ve met several really nice people on teh “dirty alliance” side of the argument. Yes, I was hugly uneasy about the battlegrounds at first, mostly because of the disorienting effect they have when you are so use to running them from the other side., but it’s been a blast. I’m pretty sure that it’s due to the leveling capability of the battlegrounds now. I have ran into more low twenties players in a single battleground then I have in my entire career as a hordie. No kidding. I counted 8 players on my team below level 24 the other night, and we won! Some of these games are like turkey shoots. I walk to a node, destroy 3-4 players, cap the node, and destroy those who would try to take it from me. Seriously. I’m not trying to sit here and say I’m an uber pvper. I know I have limits, and I know I’m not that good, for real. I am having a blast though. Look at these numbers. I was  level 27 when this battleground took place(I know I was, I wrote it down on this little yellow sticky pad on my desk. It says, BG screen shot-lvl 27, uber leet). Yes, I was excited when I wrote that lsat part.

WoWScrnShot_092609_215235

Lets analyze this for a minute. thirty three killing blows. THIRTY THREE. I had 70 honor kills. ALMOST HALF OF MY KILLS WERE FINISHED OFF BY ME! I died seven times, understandable, a 10:1 kills to death ratio isn’t bad I guess. I did 37,000 damage. Not bad, considering I’m lvl 27. Even better when you look at the next closest damage dealer at 20,000.  This is pretty consistent of what I’ve seen in battlegrounds. If you know what you are doing, coming in during your upper levels(15-19 for teens bracket, 25-29 in teh twenties) and have decent, not twink, decent gear, then you will do relatively well. Besides,

In other news, I broke 1000 honor kills last night. Yes, thank you, thank you. I really wasn’t expecting it, but was excited to see I had reached that high already. In fact, one of teh guild members in Crits and Giggles asked after I got the achievement how I had gotten 1000 honor kills at level 27. Obviously it’s all of these battlegrounds I’m throwing myself into! I had 70 in this match alone!

Now, something I’m realizing while questing, yeah, I’m still doing a little bit of that too, is that some of the alliance quests are awesome. One for exsample takes you through all of these steps to be able to talk to a furbolg, in furbolg disguise. THERE IS NO WAY I’M TURNING THIS ROD IN! I CAN BE A FURBOLG ANYTIME I SEE FIT!!! It’s become my fishing costume! Here’s a good one of me, decked out in Furbolg form fishing it up in Stormforge…Ironwind? meh, I’ll look it up later!

WoWScrnShot_092609_234414

But lets face it, even when I’m not rocking the fur, Gozz looks pretty good for a dwarf!

WoWScrnShot_091809_225807

Here we see ol Gozz 2.0 sporting the bright Orange twin braided beard(how redneck can he get?) the ponytail, along with the heirloom bow and dagger, shoulders and chestpiece.  Now, I know you are thinking to yourself, how the heck is he holding his bow and dagger? I wondered the same thing. I was running up midfield in WSG, switching between the weapons to get a good screenshot, and then he didn’t put the dagger away to pull out the bow…I couldn’t get it to do it again, but I got a sweet screen shot when it happened!

Now. with brewfest almost over(we’re in the last week)It will be time to get back to this guy almost full time. Because Brewfest has been around I’ve been on Gozz 1.0 doing the dailies to finish out my Brewmaster title. I was pretty lazy last year on the holiday quests, and I really want to get the violet proto drake for Gozzy, as he collects the mounts. I’ve completed maybe three  of the holidays to 100%…and I few I didn’t even bother with…failgozz. Enough about him, I’ll talk about his exploits in detail on 4thehorde soon enough. This guy, Gozz 2.0 is going to continue to rack up the kill count in battlegrounds as he makes his way to 80. I want to continue to use the battleground for a few levels each bracket, and chances are, at lesat 5 lvls. When I get to Northrend however, I will start doing certian dailies and zones to get my faction up with them. For instnace, Sons of Hodir for the shoulder chants, Ebon death knight dudes in ice crown for the head enchant, and Wormrest accord for the mount…I know I know, the mount will match the dwarfs hair though! For now though, I’ll just keep working towards that battlecat at lvl 51!

Lily’s Baby Shower

I’ve had a ton of time to devote to blogging over the past few months. To tell you the truth, it’s been a blast. I’ve been away from my wow machine more and more with school work picking up, a baby on the way, and a crazy life to boot. I have however had a computer at work with internet capability. (barely at times, this thing is old and slow)(That’s what she said)

Balancing my wow play time with the amount I want to write has been difficult. At times I find I have nothing to write about in game, as I’ve had ZERO play time. That’s where this blog came in. I’ve been able to write about anything and everything. Here goes again. If you are looking for a great post about something wow related, look elsewhere kid’s. If you want to hear about our baby shower this morning for the little one(Baby Lily) on the way, stay tuned!

We had a great morning with a ton of people from our church. They threw us a baby shower, and let’s be honest, usually those are for the mom. All the women get together and give the mother awesome cheesy pink gifts wrapped in light pink bows and extravagant wrapping paper. Not at our church. We’re down to earth people who like to get together for most things. We have “family” showers. This is an excuse to get the father and a few men from the church to come out and celebrate with all of the ladies. They bribe us dad’s with the promise of cake, and the allure of Crunch Punch. Crunch Punch is a seductive one….

I’m not going to lie, I’ve never been to one of these. I’ve always had the excuse of work or something trivial like that get in the way. (totally planned that way FYI) It was really fun. The two ladies that put the shower together have worked with my wife and I with the high school you group for a few years now, and know us well. Over the summer we took a group of high schoolers to church camp. The camp isn’t really a camp, more like a conference. (Christ In Youth Conference) We all stay in dorm rooms and attend sessions and scheduled events, less like a “go play outside now kids” church camp. Anyway, during the beginning of the evening sessions they would play a short video segment called the Toy Box Gang. It’s really goofy, mostly stupid, and to be honest if you don’t hang out with high school kids and laugh at really really stupid things you probably won’t get it, or care about them, but they are HILARIOUS!( I run around with high schoolers at least once a week, and laugh at stupid stuff) Here’s the stupidest video they do, if you can handle this, you can handle them all!

Our shower was themed after the Toy Box Gang. IT WAS AWESOME! Here was their version of The Toybox Gang:toyboxgang

Maid Sugar(the doll), Darren(the monkey) Lewis(the mythological Unicorn) Theodore(the teddy bear) and the frog…I forget his name… It was great. The people I go to church with are genuine awesome people. They totally care about us as a family, and are continuing to pray for a quick easy delivery with a healthy baby and mommy on the other side!

Thank you for everything guys. Most likely none of you will ever read this, as many of you have no clue I write this site, but I want you all to know I love you all, and thank you for everything, least of all is the “stuff” you gave us. Your friendships, prayers, and thoughts are worth so much more than any of it.
